Why Suzuki Piano?
The Suzuki piano curriculum is an accessible, classical music-based method. This curriculum offers training for the ear, sight-reading, chord study, foundational technique, and deeper understanding of musical patterns. It is an auditory-based method of teaching piano that emphasizes listening and repetition. The method is based on the idea that children learn to play music in a similar way to how they learn their native language. The curriculum includes:
- Classical music curriculum: A series of unabridged classical pieces that increase in difficulty as the child improves. Songs are curated to implicitly teach the fundamentals of music theory.
- Parent involvement: Parents are invited to attend lessons with their child and play the recorded music at home.
- Private lessons: Children receive private lessons to focus on establishing proper technique.
- Music theory: Children learn music theory through repetition, instruction, and, when age appropriate, engaging critically with every new piece (time signatures, key signatures, etc.).
- Recitals: Children perform in recitals quarterly to develop familiarity with performance.
